The platform is web-only today. Browser-based runs identically on desktop, tablet, and mobile web (Safari/Chrome). A native iOS/Android app is on the roadmap, not shipped.

Marketplace patterns are one-time purchases, not subscription-gated. Buyers own purchased patterns permanently — continued access and download even after subscription cancellation, subject to the Terms of Service. Pricing set by individual designers; StitchThis takes a transaction fee.

Note: Maker and Studio share the same max grid size (500×500). Studio's differentiation is FORGE, designer branding, commercial use rights, more credits (100 vs 30), and priority — not a larger pattern cap.

Notable unique differentiator — StitchThis is the only browser pattern tracker that lets you edit the pattern as you stitch. Other in-browser/mobile trackers (Pattern Keeper, Markup R-XP, Stitchly) are tracker-only and don't let users modify the pattern itself. Import (live today)

• OXS (Open Cross Stitch XML) — native parser; the de-facto interchange format used by KXStitch, WinStitch, MacStitch
• PDF — image-based import for bringing existing PDF charts into the StitchThis viewer (does not do semantic symbol/color parsing of arbitrary PDFs)
• PNG / JPG / WEBP — for both source-image generation and pattern reverse-engineering
• CSV — for floss inventory bulk import (not for pattern import)

Export

• PDF — clean printer-ready; Studio plan: designer-branded with your logo and tagline replacing StitchThis branding
• OXS — for users wanting to migrate generated patterns to other tools
• Image — viewer screenshots / chart-only renders

Not yet supported

• .pat and .xsd (PCStitch native formats) — referenced in /compare/stitchthis-vs-pcstitch as a reason to migrate, but the import shim is not yet built. Roadmap.

Languages and localization

StitchThis ships UI translations, transactional email translations, and localized URL slugs in 13 locales:

Many public SEO surfaces use localized URL slugs where available (e.g., German /de/kreuzstich-muster-generator, Greek /el/dimiourgos-sxedion-stavrovelonias). Brand terms (StitchThis, FORGE, StitchSense, DMC, Anchor, etc.) remain unchanged across locales.

Account, data, and privacy

Founder and origin

StitchThis was built by Steve Yow, a data scientist with about ten years in machine learning. The product launched in 2026 after Steve's mother-in-law asked for a way to turn family photos into cross-stitch patterns, and existing tools couldn't do it well — they were either too clunky (legacy desktop apps), too narrow (single-purpose converters), or fragmented across separate tools for design, tracking, and inventory.

The product expanded from photo-to-pattern conversion to cover the entire cross-stitch workflow: design, generation, floss management, stitching, sharing, marketplace, and community.

StitchThis is independently bootstrapped, not VC-backed.
